Ten Things of Thankful Week 28: Leaning Toward Narnia But Lots of Randomness

OK, I’m feeling a little bit as though I’m mailing it in this week…feel free to pull the rip cord on reading it right now.

I promise not to be offended…in fact, if you don’t tell me, I won’t.even.know. It still shows up as “page views” so “Check!” You get credit and I am up in page views.

And away we go. I am thankful:

1. That we’re on vacation! We’re on vacation! (Yes, we will continue to do math and reading but still…a lightened load feels very vacation-esque.) Three weeks of Christmas vacation. Ah…

2. That CYT’s Narnia production is going so well! At the time of this post, there are only three shows left (total of 6 over the course of four days). Audiences are enjoying it, and the cast and crew feel good about the work they’re doing. Mr. Always Random and I got to see it last night and it was very well done. I saw rehearsal on Monday and oh it kind of looked like a hot mess to me. But that was the first time they were all together with props and costumes, and on the stage where they would perform. I assumed it would come together by Thursday morning and it did.

3. This production has been kicking.our.butts…later than usual nights, an early morning…and just lots of focus and effort and time in the car. And packing dinners and or lunches. And making sure clothing for crew (all black) is washed and ready for rehearsals and performances). And time not together as a family (I hate it when my kids are out a bunch of nights in a row…I know it is the impending future of life, but I still don’t have to like it.) But the PBA are really enjoying it so I am thankful for that.

4. (I hate to admit this, but as you could probably tell from above) I will be a little thankful when it is over tomorrow. We haven’t even had the Friday night and Saturday-day practices for the past few weeks like the cast members have had; the PBA were only Crew, which has been a time commitment, but only for this week. Phew.

5. The roads were well-salted for our drive home from the play last night. It began snowing soon after we arrived at the theater and continued until we were home (which was several hours later). Thankfully the roads were mostly just wet. (As an aside, I am NOT thankful that it is still snowing and the PBA have to go back up to the theater this morning for two shows today but we’ll just pray about that and all will be fine, I am sure.)

6. For the ability to shop online. Does this need further explanation? I think not. Plus is kind of piggy-backs on this next one…both of them allow me to stay in my jammies.

7. That I have not one but TWO strapping young men who will willingly (notice I did not say gladly) take out Mr. Indy, in spite of the fact that it’s raining…or snowing as the case has been this week-end. Which means my jammies stay nice and dry.

8. That this week has been too busy for me to make many Christmas goodies. I posted recipes yesterday which I have made in the past but not this year. Because there has been no time. And I love a good cookie. But I do not NEED a cookie. Thus, my item of thankfulness is not having cookies in the house to tempt me. Yet...I will be making these cookies very soon.

9. And speaking of recipes, my world-famous (ok, blogosphere-famous…and even that it pushing it quite a bit) Salted Carmel Pretzel Bark was listed…dare I say FEATURED…in the December issue of the same publication which has paid me to write other articles. I am humbled and honored.

10. And I have made it to #10 on the list. Tah-dah! Have a glorious week-end!

Be sure to visit Lizzi and see what everyone else is thankful for this week!

  1. #6 and #8, oh yes. Getting to baking today, but I am going to try to give it all away before I eat any.

    1. Well, you MUST at least sample before you give away...you don't want to give away crap! ;)

  2. Online shopping is on my to-do list today. I will not be ordering chocolate chips, though, because I also do not NEED a cookie. Like you, though, I will also be baking soon. (And at the point I am ready to bake, I will buy the chocolate!)

    1. That's probably a good idea, although I am so cheap that I load up on the chocolate when it is on sale! :) Good luck sticking to your plan!

    2. I am totally in favor of stocking up when things are on sale, and it works well for me when we're talking about things like oatmeal. I have a great talent for making chocolate disappear, though. It's better for me not to have it in the house until I'm ready to use it. Let's just say that chocolate isn't part of my food storage plan. :-)

  3. yeesh if that was mailing it in I should be adjusting my standards! That was a cool list! I love the Narnia story ... when you mentioned it last week I was wondering how it would go as it just didn't seem so adjustable to stage and music but Im glad to see it did! Sounds cool! I made your pretzel concoction a while back when your recipe was with Lizzi... that was yours right? I will have to go check it out to be sure... it was saltilicious to everyone who consumed it and I should say everyone consumed it!

    1. Yes, that was my pretzel bark recipe. I made some more today, in fact. To "give away" of course...but I did try it to make sure it was edible. I would hate to give something away which tasted horrible. Took one for the team...that's me! :)

  4. Oh darling...you know you are more to me than page views! :)

"mailing it in" = "not putting in much effort" :)

Well, thanks...I try to share the addiction wherever possible.

Yes, that's the plan anyway... :)

  5. Congrats for being yet again published. Would you mind sharing the recipe on my holiday cookie recipe swap on Tuesday?

Glad the play worked out so well. And that the road conditions allowed you to attend the show!

    Enjoy your weekend!!

  6. Congrats on getting the recipe published!
Glad the play is going well, but that it is almost over. Those things are serious time-eaters. While I love that my kids get involved in the middle school musical, oh, the time it takes to get it done.
I'm also thankful for the clear roads. We were all the way up at 73rd st. last night when the snow started, and was quite worried about the drive home. No need to worry. All was clear.
Nice job, using the TToT rule 1.3 on #10. :)

  7. I have heard about this Blogosphere Famous Salted Caramel Pretzel Bark and I am meant to be here for this recipe. This is my absolute weakness and I had lost the recipe I had for it. Now I have a new one and have it on good authority that it will not disappoint. Thank you!

  8. I am opting out of baking this year, despite the fact that I have friends and family who loved the fruitcake I did last year. It needed to happen about three weeks ago and it just didn't. So the only baking happening here is my super fast super easy oatmeal cranberry white chocolate chip cookies.

I would like to try that salted caramel pretzel stuff though!

    1. I understand the opting out of baking...but I must admit that it's mostly for me that I bake, but choose to give it away to others (most of it anyway).

Yes, the bark is quite tasty and super-easy! Let me know what you think if you have the chance to try it!

  9. Online shopping does solve all our problems. I found myself reviewing and...guilty as charged, visiting a few online stores for buys. A great list and thanks for sharing with us!

  10. mostly because of what you said about 'page views'
lol…. while not the way it was in the beginning, where I would feel seriously not happy when zero people came to the Doctrine, I still simply enjoy seeing the people who come and read and comment… that last is a total bonus and is worth about 25% on the numbers of views.

    1. I don't really do it for page views, especially sicne I know there's so much spam (Dyanne had to go and burst my bubble that I wasn't really as popular in Russia as I previously thought...LOL).

I do, however, love comments...so thanks for taking the time to do just that. :)

  12. Yay for being on vacation! And double yays for being able to shop online- I did most of mine from the comfort of my couch :)

    1. Yes, I would have been on a comfy couch except that my children pilfered the laptop...so I am instead using my desktop. Which is usually ok...except when I want to be on a comfy couch! ;)

      Thanks for stopping by!

  13. Any day you can stay in your jammies (and not be because you are sick) is a good day. Add shopping and baking to it and it's even better. Narnia sounds like it was a great experience; they always say a bad dress rehearsal equals a great performance. Why can't scientists figure out how to make snow fall only on the ground and not on roads and sidewalks? Maybe a mass heating system underneath all the roadways?
