Deep in the Heart of Texas

Sometimes I just have to toot my own horn, though really I don't mean to brag.

If you know me at all, you know it’s not really me. Usually.

But I don’t know how else it could be conveyed.

I need to world (and yes, I clearly have a small “world” as indicated by my readership, but I’m not letting it get me down; my faithful readers are enough for me. Plus, if my stats are accurate, I am once again quite popular in Russia, which means my world is bigger than one might have supposed.) to know that I may be doing something right with this homeschooling business.

Maybe.

Last week, we learned about and of course listened to the sultry sounds of Mr. Gene Autry (see, that’s funny for many reasons, because of all the things Gene Autry’s voice has been called, “sultry” is probably not one of them).

Today, the PBA yelped (yes, I labored and pondered and ruminated long and hard regarding which would be the best word choice for what they did; “yelped” was the hands-down winner.) and joined right in when "Deep in the Heart of Texas" came on the radio.

They even clapped at the appropriate times.

Word.

I have included it here simply for your listening pleasure; go ahead and clap along...you know you want to.

PS Don't ask me how this will apply to their "real" lives...I was simply thrilled that they apparently have learned SOMETHING from me.

  1. I am picturing you and the boys singing and clapping with the windows down, and the image makes me laugh so hard. Love it! And if my 12yo is ever with you when this comes on, he won't participate. He won't even know there's fun clapping portions. They've never heard of Gene.
    Is that sad?

    1. I don't know if it's sad, but I feel sad for your children in that regard.

      I must say that later on last night on the way home from soccer practice, I was belting out "Ballroom Blitz" (the 70's version) and I got blank stares from both boys. I felt sad for them then.

  2. My Mom's Home town of Kenton Ohio hosts Gene Autry Days every year, but not for the reason you might think. Kenton is not his home town, but is home to the toy factory that made his toy cap guns when he was at the height of his popularity. They still hold this festival, although, I am quite sure that most of Kenton has no idea who Gene Autry is.

    Fun Fact of the day!

  3. Expand their world further, dear - here's a clapping song we LOVE joining in with in the pub in Annagassen, Ireland, when we're home with Husby's family. Sometimes we've even just all sat round the kitchen table, singing folk songs, playing tin whistles and clapping along to each others' songs. It's delicious

  4. Oh goodness toot your horn I love that they did that! As parents we should occasionally give ourselves a pat on the back. Great job at least they will be cultured boys EVEN if they do a terrible job at dishes. {see what I did there, I remembered one of your other blog posts}
