Wordless Wednesday: The Blackberry Iris

I headed into my flower-beds for some trimming and dead-heading (yes, I know how to party...) and imagine my delight when I found this little beauty!

I had no memory of ever planting it, and yet, here it was in my garden.

Oh joy, oh rapture!

It is a Blackberry Iris. And though I'm certain that you all knew immediately what it was, I had to look it up...if for no other reason, because as I said, I had no memory of every planting it.

Until I saw what it was called. And immediately remembered that a friend gave me some seeds last year.

Oops...

Don't you hate it when that happens? I would much prefer to just remember without having to be reminded. Good thing I'm not old. (See, that's funny because...oh, nevermind.)

But I digress.

In the fall, it will go to seed...seeds which LOOK LIKE blackberries (but are not...don't be fooled). Hence the name...wasn't someone clever?

All that to say...I'm willing to share seeds, come fall...just let me know. And please try to do a better job than I did of remembering them...

Have a fabulous day!

  1. That is a beautiful flower! I'd ask for them, but you know how plants grow around here. Best to give them to someone who doesn't have beast dogs digging up every inch of her flower beds.
