Ten Things of Thankful: Week 27

What to do about an intro?

1. I am thankful that I don't need an intro and you will all still love me; and even if you don't, you are probably too polite to mention it. Probably. Hopefully.

2. I am thankful that we only have 3 days left before Christmas Break officially begins...ah, the beauty of home schooling! But...we are going to have to do a smidge of reading and math during break. Three weeks (yes, you read that right, Baby...three weeks off!) is too long to go without doing any work, unfortunately. The PBA are in total disagreement with me on that, but, alas, it shall be as it shall be.

3. I got all my Christmas decorating done last week-end. Did I already say that last week? I am too lazy to go back and look.

4. I got MOST of my Christmas cards mailed/distributed…ok, the only reason I didn’t get them all was because I forgot to count how many I had before I went to the post office and I didn’t buy enough stamps. And because I am too lazy/cheap to purchase more, I will wait and hand out the remaining few as I see the recipients.

5. And this is a BIG one. Last week-end I purchased all the supplies I need to make next year’s Christmas cards. Just.In.Time. Phew. Thankful for planning ahead.

6. I am thankful that the snow we received on Thursday night wasn’t nearly as bad as predicted (it never is…but boy, the grocery stores were packed! It’s going to snow!!! We need milk, bread and toilet paper!), thus my Friday plans weren’t terribly altered. OK, that’s a big lie…I did not anticipate for plans to be changed because when I wrote this it didn’t look as though they would be. Lacrosse Winter Training for the 10yo was canceled and I elected for us to not go to Small Group, because I am a big chicken when it comes to slippery roads. So…we had a night at home instead of being out and about. (And we had a whole Gingerbread to ourselves...not my plan but it was a bonus!)

7. And I am feeling thankful for the “jammie day” we had at the PBA. We NEVER stay in jammies all day but we did Friday. And no, not even I ever stay in my jammies all day. I may put on sweats, but I could go out in public in sweats. Jammies? Not so much...though some people do. I don't quite understand that, but I digress...

8. And I counted "jammie day" as their Advent Calendar treat too. I’m lazy like that. (And I'm thankful for cheap...heck, FREE, gifts).

9. I am thankful that the PBA are talking to one another again. I shall spare you the details of it, but bottom line it is what happens when we have a "jammie day" and don’t go to the gym and run around and release some of that pent up testosterone (I'm talking about the PBA here, lest you be confused). That’ll teach me to have "jammie day" again. So in hindsight, the "jammie day" did have a price.

10. And I'm thankful that the 10yo is talking to me again following our little “corrective interview” regarding his attitude in the change to Friday night’s plans; he was mad that we did not go to small group. His argument was such: “The roads are not slippery. I walked on them in our court and they weren’t slippery.” Ergo…Mom, why can’t you drive on roads which are continuing to receive additional snow, and even though the temperatures remain something below zero and turn the roads into sheets of ice, why won’t you risk our lives to go? After I served him some dinner, his attitude improved.

Bonus: I am also thankful that I figured out this correlation; crappy attitude from the 10yo (usually) = the need for him to eat something. I, too, have this issue and realized this long about the same time I noticed it in him. Don’t judge. (Defensive much? Maybe I need a candy bar…)

    1. Thanks so much! I do enjoy getting my Christmas cards sent out...part of "checking things off a list" which makes me so happy!

  2. You never need an introduction - we know you and love you all the same :)

Glad that the Jammie Day issues were resolved well. it sounds like a good thing to have tried. Perhaps just the once though. I tend to get frowsty if I spend the whole day in jammies, and yeah, I'd probably pick a fight, too. Also, there are times when I'm really bad at being hungry and properly get my grump on. Well done you for being aware of that and fixing the issue.

I am so in awe that not only are your cards for this year organised, but that you're prepared for NEXT YEAR! You're incredible! I just today looked at Husby and suggested "So shall I pick up some stuff for cards?" We have NO idea when we'll get them done. Or sent. Or anything.

    1. Yes, I don't quite know what it is about being in jammies all day that canhave that effect...I may try it again, but be better prepared as we go into it.

Don't be in awe. I wasn't planning to buy supplies for next year...it was one of those things where the stars aligned and the perfect pieces presented themselves for purchase. :) And don't stress about getting them done...it's something I ENJOY which is why I do it. For those that hate it, I say don't bother doing them! :)

    1. No, it was simply trying to get something checked off the list, and it was easy enough to do. :) Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Oh, please don't think that! Just because I have cards done doesn't mean a thing!

Hope you've had a productive week so far! :) Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I still have lots to do as well....every "gift" has its price yes?... That food is directionally proportional to crankiness is a pretty common occurrence I guess!

    1. Yes, there's no such thing as a free lunch...unless it's birthday freebies! ;)

  7. I'm going to need to borrow some of your energy and organization, if you don't mind. :-)

  8. You don't need no stinkin' intro.

Sometimes, the weather men are actually right and you get 2 feet of snow in a place that doesn't get 2 feet over 7 or 8 years. You've got to lay in a BIG supply of Diet Coke for days (2 weeks of missed school) like that!

When I was single, it didn't bother me that much to drive on snow and ice. Now that I have kids, I don't want to risk it. I will be a hermit (in my JAMMIES) until the roads are clear again.

    1. Yes, I agree...I used to be fine on the roads when I had no one relying on me...it's like I feel a sense of responsibility or something now...

  9. Christmas cards. Hmmm...knew I was forgetting something! Oops!
I am one of the lucky people who get terribly irritable if I don't eat. My kids even know when I start acting like a bear they should bring me a bagel or something. Sad, but true.
I can't speak about driving on icy roads but I don't like to drive in the rain. I would imagine ice is scarier.

    1. I think my kids know to not even do that...if I am so far gone that they bring me food (or suggest that I eat), I might not receive it well. Glad that you do. :)

Rain is no fun, but ice is worse, at least in my opinion. Glad you don't have to manage it! :) Thanks for stopping by!

  10. Oh, my. As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing better than a jammie day. We love them around here. I am in my jammies the moment I am home for the rest of the day. I long for my jammies when I am out and about in the cold. Why does spell check not recognize jammies as a real word?
Our plans for Friday changed, too. We weren't planning on going anywhere, but we weren't planning on 2 extra kids being snowed in with us, either.
Go you, getting all your Christmas stuff done. Can't say I'm surprised. Would you like to help a mama out and now get working on my list? :)

    1. Oh I will probably have some jammie days over Christmas Break, but we never do them on school days. I know some home schoolers do and I don't judge that, but we've never been a family who jammies it up all day. They are sometimes too relaxed anyway and I doubt that jammies all day would help.

Now, just because I have cards done doesn't mean I have EVERYTHING done...and believe me, I do not!

  11. Man, you don't need no stinkin' intro, man.... (that's the best Cheech and Chong I can do)

Ack! Overachiever! Send out Valentine's cards like the rest of us slackers!! ;) (eh, disregard my bad attitude...I have low blood sugar at the moment and ... mostly, I'm just jealous) ;)

    Jammie-days are the BEST!!!

  12. I'm liking the don't need no steenking invation man! (I like Kari's take, though I can picture Dyanne's delivery…though not dressed as she (and apparently 83 % of your Readers are…)

there's the unperceived reliance all kids have that (I suspect) allows them to make certain demands and take exception when they are denied… the roads are not that slippery and (you wouldn't let anything bad happen anyway).

…ah to be a young life form lol

  13. Wow, your Christmas cards are done and out and you have supplies for next year? I'm impressed!! I award myself with pajama day every now and then on a Saturday or Sunday and it's actually quite nice, though I too might behave better if I went outside to run around a bit! :-) I am of the belief that food or sleep can cure a lot of emotional overloads. Sometimes just redirecting like that to a much more pleasant situation is all we need to back down a little. It sounds to me like you are doing a great job with your kids and their schooling and with trying to help them adapt to the realities of life! Wishing you warmer weather and safe driving, like you I really dread when I have to venture out on ice, and I don't do it if don't absolutely need to. Happy Christmas school vacation coming up... how well I remember how we looked forward to and counted down those last remaining days as children!

    1. Well, I sometimes do jammie days on the week-ends, but NEVER on school days. I think that was part of the problem. We all function better with routine and if something gets "off" sometimes we lose.our.heads.

Thanks for the encouragement...I don't always see it, but sometimes just sitting down to write this list helps me to.

  14. You definitely need a candy bar.

I agonize over an intro...not any more. Thank you! You realize you will make my next week's list right??? ;)

I used to be short on stamps too. Now I just don't send cards. Problem solved.

    1. Well, I do what I can to help out a fellow blogger ;)

See, I really should go to that...but I just can't pull the plug. But every year my list of mailed cards gets shorter and shorter...I'm gradually weening myself off it, I guess! ;) I should go with the tried and true band-aid removal approach: quick and painful. One moment of screaming pain and then long-last relief.

  15. Jammie days are awesome! I'm looking forward to some of these, as I will have almost 2 weeks off over the holidays as well.. Three weeks are definitely better though!!

  16. No intro is fine and dandy - just dig right in, I say!

Christmas cards..hrm. Know what happens to mine? They sit un-written and un-mailed until I give up and decide to send New Year's cards. But then I don't buy any. So I buy Valentines and decide to do Valentine's Day cards. And I now own about 100 Valentine's Day cards. Boo.
