A PSA About Sneaking Into Church

If one is pondering sneaking into church late, I would advise against an attempt to slink in unnoticed during Communion (if it so happens to be served at the front of the sanctuary instead of being passed down the rows); it MAY lead to you inadvertently thieving someone else’s seat.

In case you can’t imagine, let me tell you this: it is just a touch embarrassing.

And a little unnerving: I only like my seat warmed by people I actually know…and even then it’s questionable.

  1. Good to know.... good to know.

(wait, were you the ones who lost your seat? or the stealer of the seat?)

  2. When do you receive Communion?? Ours is almost the end of Mass. Actually, kids all over the country know that when everyone receives Communion, there is only one song and one prayer left. Can't imagine someone sneaking in that late!

    1. It's more at the beginning of the service...but it varies. So yes, it would be pretty easy to be coming in during Communion at our church, especially if you were teaching in the preschool the first hour and then lingered down there, and when you came upstairs you saw someone else and stood and chatted with her for a little bit too. So you see...it's actually quite easy to be late to service...but still hear the teaching. :)

  3. Oh, and I would like to know the rest of the story. Was the person young or old? What did he do when he realized he stole your seat? (Knowing you, I am assuming you were sneakee and not the sneaker.)

    1. She's about my age, actually, and I don't know her well at all. Not everyone had gotten up at the same time. It was an "as you feel led" kind of thing. So I saw my friend SV and her husband and one of her kiddos in a short aisle at the back and there were two seemingly-open seats. So Jimmy and I plopped down in the seats before SV could stop us. And then she told us that someone else was sitting there, but she'd gone up for Communion. But there was no purse or Bible or anything to indicate that it was taken. So we moved (of course!)...but had trouble telling what OTHER seats were empty because half the congregation had gone up for Communion. Jimmy told me later he knew right away that we'd taken someone's seat because it was warm. Eeew!
