Ten Things of Thankful: Week 21 Frazier Museum Version

OK, since it's been oh...24 hours since I teased you with the promise of telling about our field trip on Thursday, I shall not keep in you in suspense any longer (I'm certain you couldn't sleep last night and I would hate for you to miss another night's worth of sleep.

We went to the Frazier Museum in Louisville, KY. It was a wonderful little discovery and was so glad that our co-op suggested it.

So here it is for you in 10 (fairly) succinct items...my thankfulness list from the Frazier Museum (kind of):

1. I am thankful for this fun field trip to ease us back into school.

2. I am thankful that we didn’t meet with too much traffic on the way there.

3. And I am thankful that construction didn’t hamper our travels too much.

4. I am thankful that it did not spit snow and sleet on us ALL the way home...only about half of the drive home (which totals about 1 hour 45 minutes).

5. I am thankful that the pile-up on the south-bound lane was not in the north-bound lane...not even with rubber-neckers. This doesn’t mean that I was GLAD for the south-ward traveling people…I was simply thankful that we were not the ones in the pile-up.

6. I am thankful for a new friend I made by saying I wanted to carpool and was assigned to ride with a woman I had never met (to be clear...I had seen her but had never met her). The co-op isn’t HUGE but it’s big enough that I don’t know most of the people…I am in a classroom with one woman and only know a handful of others. All this superfluous info to say: it was no surprise that I didn’t know her because I don’t know most of the moms (or kids) in the group. However I will say that through our discussion of when we'd lived and where we grew up, we discovered that we'd lived a few doors down from one another and that both she and her sister had been my babysitters when I was little (I actually didn't tell her that SHE was because I didn't want her to think I was calling her old...but I know that she was.) Small world, right?

7. I am thankful that this lovely little history museum had a great tie-in to our co-op studies. They had some A-MAZING suits of armor and other medieval “stuff” (I’m quite the word-smith, aren’t I? Don’t judge...I worked all day today, or yesterday as it will be when you are reading this, doing wedding flowers...again, I'm trying to get out in front of this blogging business.)

8. And I'm thankful that during our visit, when we went to see the historical interpreter who was speaking about (and as) Josephine (you know…of Napoleon fame) and she began by talking about the steamy (my words not her) Napoleon had written to her when he was “courting” her…I thought we’d made a mistake by deciding to watch the production. But all that to say, it appeared that Josephine noticed her young visitors and (possibly) changed her soliloquy to fit her audience….that being said, it turned out ok and I was THANKFUL…I wasn’t in the mood to answer two hours worth of questions about it on the way home.

9. I am thankful that the place where I met my new friend Jennifer and dropped off my car for the day…was just steps away from a Papa Murphy’s Pizza. I took that as a divine sign that I should get pizza for dinner…and who am I to argue with God?

10. So that meant that after a long, arduous day of field-tripping, I didn’t have to cook dinner. And, as you can probably guess, I was thankful for that too.

  1. I used to love field trip day as a kid. As a parent not quite as much...go figure. Sounds like a great trip overall with a (thankfully) discreet Josephine!

    1. Yes I think I was most relieved that Josephine was discreet...

And field trips as an adult are way more stressful...even at 10 & 12, I am still always thinking someone is going to get lost or taken...

Glad you had such a fun trip :) Looks like the museum was awesome.

And SNOW?!?!? Oh hells no! Keep it AWAY! I know we're facing Windageddon tomorrow, but I do NOT want snow!

Glad God told you to get pizza. He's nice like that sometimes ;)

  6. How do I have that many relatives living in Louisville, yet have never heard of this place??? You must tell me more the next time we see each other.
Carpooled with your babysitter?? Ha! That's pretty funny. How old were you when she watched you? She might not be that much older. I frequently babysat kids just a few years younger than me.

    I live for pizza nights.

    1. I will gladly tell you more...it was a lovely discovery on the part of our co-op.

I was probably about 6 or 7...I graduated in 92 and she was in 87 so she's 5 years older. And her sister is two years older than her so that seems like about the right age distance to babysitter/babysittee. I just know I don't like to be reminded of my age by kids I babysat having their own kids and stuff...somehow it makes me feel older than just having my own children.

  7. What a small world! I imagine your new-found friend/past babysitter would not think you were calling her old if you admitted that she babysat you. She probably remembers, and like Christine said, she's probably not that much older than you are anyway.

    1. Yeah she didn't seem to have any memory of me at all. Which is fine...I have a tendancy to remember people from my past who do not remember me. I have learned to not let it bother me. Well...not bother me much. :) It's difficult to accept that you're not memorable.
