Ten Things of Thankful: Week 5

Ten Things of Thankful

I feel I must begin this week with an apology. Each week I tell myself that I will be more thoughtful on my Ten Things of Thankful.

And take more time with my list.

And yet here I am, on Saturday afternoon, no less, just now getting to my list.

I realize it doesn’t make it any less a list of thankful but I would like to consider it a little bit more heavily than I sometime do.

This clearly is not the week.

Hence my apology...if you are looking for more out of my blog, I have failed you again.

Sorry.

My blog title is accurate if nothing else.

But, since I actually do have so much for me to be thankful for, I’m just going to dive right in:

1. I am thankful for each and every minute I have with my sweet boys. Though the PBA sometimes, ok often actually, drive me mostly batty, I adore them with every ounce of my being.

2. I am thankful for a husband who works hard all week (although maybe not so much this week…vacation day on Monday and a holiday on Thursday…but I digress), but is still willing and able to help me clean the house and is actually folding laundry as I sit here and write.

3. I am also thankful for my husband who took the PBA fishing this morning. They have not gone fishing in quite a long time and though the boys have been begging to go, there simply has not been the time in our hectic schedule...unti today. It's simply amazing what kind of fish are in the pond near our house (I'm not divulging the exact location, lest you try to sneak over and steal the fish...though I wouldn't dare eat them! Is it wrong that they had 3 eyes?)

Yes, his hair is wet...they fished in the rain. That is some desire to fish right there.

Yes, these are both bass...not the ONLY fish they each caught...just giving you a tiny taste...pardon the pun.

4. I am thankful that my body is willing and able to work…and that I had the opportunity to work (not just “sitting at a computer”, but “on my feet” kind of work) yesterday and today…setting up wedding flowers yesterday, and doing the post-wedding/reception tear-down today. I had big fun, met some new friends, and put some cash in the bank account = win, win, and win.

5. I am thankful for my friend SV for getting me hooked up with the job this week-end…it’s the least she could do, being as how she took my job at the preschool. (See, that’s funny because she didn’t take it…I resigned and she applied; but if I can tease her about it, I will. So I did. Thanks, SV…love ya mean it, Sister!)

6. I am thankful for my parents, who do SO much for me and for our family that I don't even know where to begin. But since I am already talking about my opportunity to work, I'll continue on that vein: I am especially thankful because they took the PBA yesterday morning, (and my friend KW who took the PBA in the afternoon)…all just so I could work.

7. I am thankful for my heating pad…because MY.BACK.IS.KILLING.ME from being on my feet all day yesterday.

8. And I’m thankful for my chiropractor, who showed me how to stretch my back out when it spasms like it is. And though I doubt he's reading this, I would be UBER thankful if his office would get me in on an early appointment first thing Monday morning...but I'm not counting that one yet.

9. And I’m thankful for ibuprofen, which also takes the edge off…maybe not off my attitude, but the pain is at least somewhat dulled, which makes IT better. So many people, in other countries especially, don’t have medicine they need to live, let alone medicine to simply ease the pain of an over-strained back. I'll admit it...I'm spoiled.

10. And I’m thankful for these flowers which the bride’s mother apparently either forgot about or decided not to take because I brought them home following the tear down on a wedding reception, and I’ll get to enjoy them for at least a couple more days (roses and hydrangeas are not typically long-lasting cut flowers...I did change the water so fingers-crossed that it will give them a little more life). Cut flowers in a vase always make a house feel home-ier…not homelier, lest you be confused; big difference in those two words.

11. On that note, I’m off to the store to get window blinds for the office-turned-into-bedroom. And NO...in case you are just now joining the party or are somehow otherwise confused…we are NOT pregnant or anything like that. We have applied to become a foster family, so we are getting the room in order for the little boys and/or girls that come through our door and need a safe place to stay and be loved...and maybe be adopted into our family. We'll have to see how God leads us on that. I am thankful for the opportunity and the desire to hopefully help make the world a better place for some children who deserve better, so I suppose that makes #11 on my list of thankful.

Have a fabulous day!

PS...Mr. Always Random did take a nap after he finished folding the laundry. I was still writing. I guess I'll allow it.

  1. The flowers are gorgeous! Free flowers are the BEST flowers! My husband used to work for his dad at a family run mortuary and would bring home extra flowers all the time. Loved it. (It was only weird if there was a banner that said "Mom" on it. JUST KIDDING!)

And here's to ibuprofen, and it's cousin, naproxen!

  2. Speaking of flowers.... lol

the section of our yard that we have for Ola's grave has been the oddest (and most fun) of horticultural adventures.
Of course, the flowers you have in your Post, are very much more attractive! ( sorry, Y-chrome deficiency on the admiration of plants and such).
I have actually had more luck with flowers than with a vegetable garden ( way unlike Christine's skills over at 'the Coop')... and the 'graveyard' makes for a fun test area.*

The fishing in the rain makes sense! You remember how ancient/pre-historic man used to dress up in the hides of the animal they would hunt, right? Well, getting soaking wet while fishing is the same thing.., get inside the little scaly devil's heads... "be the fish"

Glad to see you here at 'the hop'!

*my personal gardening style involves buying packets of seeds (preferable without looking at the labels) bringing home 10 or 13 packets, mixing them up in a bowl and throwing them into the fenced in area.
Some of them plants really can grow!

  3. Three eyes? Wow! That sounds like some dodgy water you got going over there!

I'm glad you've got ways of helping your bad back, and that you got the chance to work, even if it left you in pain.

Becoming foster carers is such a big and very important thing to do. WELL DONE YOU for doing it - taking that leap of faith is such a huge deal. I look forward to hearing about how it goes.

Thanks for joining in again, they may not be all that deep, but that's the beauty of this hop - they can be how you want them to be or how they turn out on the day.

    (Gorgeous flower pic btw)

  4. Wow, I'd love to hear more about your journey toward fostering. I finally had my first (and last) baby at age almost-41 and we've given a lot of thought to fostering. I have some reservations about being able to dedicate enough time - my son has autism and requires quite a bit of support and therapy...
Anyway, I'm really happy to hear you're doing this and look forward to reading about it!

  5. I'd love to go fishing some day. Maybe I should have talked the hubby taking me while living back in the US, right now, with two little girls to scare away the fish, we might not be able to catch anything :-)

  6. Kids are the best, aren't they? I love that you are going to be foster parents! I have the biggest respect for parents like you!!

I am really glad about Ibuprofen, too, because I have frequent headaches and Ibu is my salvation!
