Ten Things of Thankful: Pre-Vacation Style

Ten Things of Thankful

So…while I am always thankful for things such as my husband, my boys, all my family and friends, our home, more than enough food to eat, cars to drive, good health, etc, I don’t know that any of you want to read a list like that.

And if you do, please forgive…feel free to consider the above my list of thankfulness and move along to someone else. I promise I won’t be offended.

But if you do want to know what other sorts of things for which I am thankful, please continue.

I am a little focused on the upcoming vacation…and the little bits (and big bits) of thankfulness surrounding it. I like a theme.

Well, kind of. I like a theme as a jumping-off point. If you know me at all, you know that’s more the truth.

And I strive for truthfulness. Nothing I hate more than a blogger who lies.

Well, that’s not quite true either, but in my attempts at shallowness, I will pull the rip cord on that bunny trail.

Without further delay, on to my Ten Things Thankful for this week:

1.  A dog still somewhat fresh from the groomer…we can enjoy his sweet-smelling fur for at least a handful of days before we go on vacation…knowing that when we return he will be pungent as most dogs are after a week or more post-groomer.

2.  A reasonably clean house we don't have to clean when we get home ...excepting for the spiders (and their webs) which will surely take up residence while the house is vacant, as well as the Indy hair which will settle out of the air and coat everything in a fine layer of white fur...

3.  I am again/still/always thankful for my friend who’s keeping Indy while we're gone…I don’t know if she knows what a HUGE blessing this is to us.

4.  That we have arranged to get rid of our satellite service before we leave so that’s something we don’t have to pay for during the time in which we’re gone; AND we’ll pick up the new cable service on the day after we get back so we don't have to pay while we're gone either. (“I love it when a plan comes together.”…quote? Anyone?)…this is kind of a two-for-one thankful thing.

5.  We’re also dumping the landline and changing internet service so it will be faster ... and also won’t have to pay for it while we’re gone.

6.  Which leads me to another thankful item...saving $60/month by making these few phone calls.

7.  New books to read on vacation.

8.  Completing the majority of the paperwork for our Foster care license application before we leave on vacation ...I haven't mentioned this new adventure to you yet bc there's not been anything to mention thus far ...but stay tuned.  Hopefully after vacation I will know something more.

9.  LOTS of family time on the impending trip ...ask me about this in 2 weeks to see if I feel the same way.

10.  Almost coming out perfect in my pre-vacation grocery shopping ...not too much perishable food to take with us.

Sorry…I kept going after the 10…but just a couple more…and the last one is NOT vacation themed, but I did follow a bunny trail…you’re bright and I’m certain you’ll easily make the transition:

11.  Boys who are still excited to vacation with their family…at least most of the time.

12.  Boys who are simultaneously best friends and worst enemies…even if they only choose to admit the latter one out loud.

Yes, this is from 2006...shameless attempts to show off past-cuteness
Be sure to join the blog hop...I'd love to know what you're thankful for! Have a fabulous day

  1. Nice List (with) Theme
I enjoy lists like yours that while providing a personal view of life, does so in a way that allows the Reader to... (to use a term from long ago) relate.

  2. I loved that new books was one of your thankful things - I feel the same way.

I hope your vacation goes really well - you're right about your dog - it's so important to know that pets are well taken care of while you're away. Your friend sounds like a star :)

  3. Oh, that photo of the boys is just too cute! :-) It sounds like you have this trip thing and all the arrangements down to a science, wishing you a wonderful vacation adventure with your family... kids have a sneaky tendency to grow up and move on with their own lives before you blink twice! And isn't it amazing how a little bit of research, calling and planning can work wonders on regular budget items... good for you, you timed things perfectly too!

  5. Sometimes the best part of a vacation is coming home to a (reasonably) clean house. May the spiders take a vacation, too, and leave you cobweb-free! Have a great time!

  6. How smart you are to make changes to providers at the time of your vacation!

(Good luck with the foster care licensing. I look forward to hearing more about this adventure. We were foster-to-adopt parents for some of our children.)
